1. Confirm the exposed address

Check whether the detected address belongs to your normal internet connection, your VPN provider, or another network interface. Approximate location and organization data can help, but GeoIP information is not exact.

2. Review VPN protection

Update the VPN app and confirm that its browser or WebRTC leak protection is enabled when the provider offers that control. Reconnect to the VPN after changing the setting.

3. Isolate browser causes

  • Update the browser to the current stable release.
  • Temporarily disable extensions that modify proxy, privacy, or WebRTC behavior.
  • Repeat the analysis in a private window and in a second browser.
  • Review enterprise policies or browser privacy settings that affect peer-to-peer connections.

Avoid copying undocumented browser flags from old guides. WebRTC controls and their side effects change between browser versions.

4. Verify the change

Run the analysis again after each change. The goal is to remove the alternate public address, not merely hide local or mDNS identifiers.
